Mid-West Regional Environmental Consortium

Background

Duly authorized representatives of all six states (Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin) under the purview of Region 5 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) have indicated an interest in establishing a consortium to improve communications amongst themselves and U.S. EPA Region 5 officials with respect to relevant asbestos programs. This consortium shall be known as the Mid-West Regional Environmental Consortium (MWREC).

Mission of MWREC

The MWREC shall serve as a forum for state and federal environmental agencies or health departments to cooperate in addressing asbestos issues within U.S. EPA Region 5. The consortium will enable these agencies or departments to develop regional reciprocity agreements for the purpose of providing more efficient and cost-effective services for the public health and welfare.

Licensing and Certification

This guidance document will aid in preparation of the necessary information required by each state in MWREC for licensure or certification. Each individual state listing includes their specific licensing or certification requirements as well as contact numbers and addresses if you have additional questions. Be aware that some states may require specific prerequisites besides training in order for a license or certification to be issued.

Remember, it is important to submit all the required information, including the application form, training documentation and fees. Failure to submit all required documentation will only delay processing application.
