Sample Lactation Support Policies

Small Business with less than 99 employees:

Greene County Combined Health District is a public health provider that provides WIC, environmental health, community health, health education and vital statistics services to residences of Greene County.  The health district employs 67 people, 34% of which are women in child bearing years.  Employees and clients are provided a clean, private space in which to pump.  Employees are able to have their infants brought to them by a caregiver during the work day to breastfeed.  

Mid-sized business with 100-499 employees: 

LifeCare Alliance provides services to assist older adults or chronically ill residents in Franklin and Madison Counties.  LifeCare alliance employs 205 people, 21% of which are women in their child bearing years.  Employees are provided with a designated private room in which they can pump.  Employees are also provided with a breastfeeding resource packet including lists of community lactation resources that are available such as WIC and La Leche League.

Large business with more than 500 employees:

The Ohio Department of Health works with 130 local health departments to "protect and improve the health of all Ohioans.”  The Ohio Department of Health employs approximately 1243 people around the state, 18% of which are women in their child bearing years.  Employees at the main location are provided with a private room in which they can pump.  Employees are also able to utilize a multi-user hospital grade pump while at work. 

The Cleveland Clinic is a hospital in Northeastern Ohio that employs 42,000 people, 38% of which are women in their child bearing years.  Employees and visitors have access to designated lactation rooms in which to pump in every building as well as lactation classes.  Cleveland Clinic’s website has also been updated to include new comprehensive content regarding breastfeeding.  A pregnancy/lactation task force comprised of staff members was initiated 1 year ago to support all of these efforts.
