Ohio Minority Health Month Promotion Activity

Ohio Minority Health Month Promotion Activity

This April  we commemorate Minority Health Month with a focus on “Bridging Health Equity Across Communities.”  Ohio is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ohio Commission on Minority Health this year. For three decades, the Commission on Minority Health has provided leadership in improving the health of racial and ethnic minorities in Ohio. The commission is dedicated to eliminating disparities in minority health through innovative strategies and financial opportunities, public health promotion, legislative action, public policy and systems change.

The five goals established for Minority Health Month are to:

  • Provide crucial information to allow individuals to practice disease prevention;
  • Promote healthy lifestyles;
  • Showcase the providers of grassroots healthcare resources and information;
  • Highlight the disparate health conditions between Ohio’s minority and non-minority populations; and
  • To gain additional support for on-going efforts to improve minority health throughout the year.

Did you know that during Minority Health Month there are 100 events planned and executed by community based agencies and organizations throughout Ohio? The creativity of these initiatives has been extraordinary. While the month-long wellness campaign focuses on health promotion and disease prevention among minority populations, all events are free and open to the public. Please click on this link to access the April Calendar of Events that are happening throughout the state. http://mih.ohio.gov/Portals/0/MHM/2017%20Calendar%20Layout%20version%2011%20ECad%20edits.pdf
