Center for Health Promotion 

The Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (PHHSBG) plays an essential role in supporting innovation in health promotion and strengthening the public health infrastructure in Ohio.  

center for health promotionState and local public health programs and initiatives are dependent upon the use of data and information resources for program planning, implementation and evaluation. The Center for Health Promotion (CHP) in ODH’s Bureau of Healthy Ohio provides technical assistance on social marketing, such as campaign planning, focus group facilitation, and radio and TV script writing. ODH staff and subgrantees, local health departments, community-based organizations, external partners and other public health professionals can access actionable marketing information that can target and profile customers by demographics, lifestyle and purchasing behavior.  This type of marketing information allows public health practitioners to apply social marketing principles to program planning, media campaign development and public health interventions professionals to more effectively reach diverse populations with public health information and messages.

The PHHSBG provides support for the development of an Ohio Chronic Disease and Injury and Violence Prevention State Plan to promote the impact, efficiency, integration and collaboration of chronic disease, risk factor and injury and violence prevention programs to improve the health of Ohioans. External partners/stakeholders will provide input and feedback on development of the plan.

In 2010, a Healthy Ohio Facebook page was created and has quickly become an integral component of public communications from Healthy Ohio.
