Details about Dentist Involvement

  • OPTIONS is a structured program that helps you “give back” to your community – right from your own office!
  • OPTIONS gives you control over the number and type of cases you can accommodate in your practice.
  • A referral coordinator will screen patients for eligibility, provide referrals and handle the administrative tasks. The referral coordinator serves as a liaison between your office and the patient between appointments. Your volunteer time and assistance are spent solely in practicing dentistry.
  • A recommended sliding fee schedule is provided, with the ability to negotiate or adjust fees based on patient need and eligibility.
  • Dentists who provide 100 percent donated care to an OPTIONS patient are eligible for up to four hours of Volunteer Continuing Education (CE) credit per biennium through the Ohio Dental Association. Volunteer CE credit is awarded at a ratio of one credit for four hours of volunteer care. For example, one hour of donated care equals .25 credit hours; two hours equals .5 credit hours, etc.

The need for dentist participation remains high!

Hundreds of people are waiting to be matched to an OPTIONS dentist! Some have been on a waiting list for many months, even years. Unfortunately, there are areas of the state with few or no OPTIONS dentists. Both general practitioners and specialists are needed.

Join the more than 900 Ohio dentists who already participate in OPTIONS. Additional information about OPTIONS can be found by visiting the ODA website.
