Ohio Healthy Programs

Ohio Healthy Programs logoOhio Healthy Programs (OHP) is a healthy eating, activity, and development training for early care and education providers that promotes policy, systems, and environmental changes.

OHP provides 15 hours of Ohio Approved professional development. A site can apply to become a designated Ohio Healthy Program upon completing all trainings, aligning with OHP menu requirements, adopting a healthy policy, and engaging families on an OHP related topic.

Over 21,300 child care providers have participated in OHP trainings. 204 sites have earned state designation as an Ohio Health Program. Those 204 sites have adopted over 817 healthy menu changes, 1,492 policy improvements, and hundreds of family engagement activities.

OHP for Family Child Care Providers

ECOPP acknowledges that family child care providers face more challenges in attending in-person trainings. A special version of OHP is offered through online webinars and includes on-site technical assistance. Family child care sites completing all the required elements may also apply to be designated as an Ohio Healthy Program.

Parenting at Mealtime and Playtime

Parenting at Mealtime and Playtime LogoParenting at Mealtime and Playtime (PMP) is a quality improvement initiative for health practitioners to optimize obesity risk assessment, prevention counseling, and family support.

PMP curriculum provides developmentally appropriate guidelines on nutrition, healthy activity, and sleep within the context of building resilient family-child interactions that support healthy habits.

Health Practitioners: The Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (OAAP) partners with ECOPP to deliver PMP for physicians in an online, self-paced format that grants MOC Part-IV professional development. For more information visit OAAP’s site.

Home Visitors: A 10-week pilot of PMP for home visitors ran in Fall of 2016. Information gathered in the pilot will support material and training updates leading to a statewide launch of PMP with home visitors anticipated in Fall of 2017.

WIC Professionals: WIC Professionals are invited to specially adapted PMP regional trainings in Spring of 2017. These trainings will provide PMP content as well as an opportunity to network with other health professionals in the region.
