Pregnancy

Pregnancy counts and rates are important public health statistics. The tables in this section present pregnancy statistics for Ohio and Counties. The estimated number of pregnancies in this report is the sum of live births, induced abortions, and estimated fetal loss. Live birth data were obtained from Ohio Vital Statistics Births statistical files. Induced abortion data were obtained from Ohio Vital Statistics Abortion statistical files. Estimated fetal losses were derived from fetal loss rates calculated from pregnancy history sample survey questions in the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) (1). (Ohio Vital Statistics Fetal Mortality statistical files were not used in the fetal loss estimates).

All rates are per 1,000 women in the specified population group. For example, if a pregnancy rate is 25 per 1,000 then there were 25 pregnancies for every 1,000 women in the group.
