ODH IRB Exemption Review

IRB Exemption Review is the process in which a protocol is determined to not require the approval of the ODH IRB.  To meet that requirement, the research must meet at least one of the following qualifications.  Even then, some exclusions may apply.  The final decision of whether a protocol qualifies for exemption lies with the ODH IRB Chair.

  1. The research is outside the jurisdiction of the ODH IRB (jurisdiction includes research which, directly or indirectly, involves the State of Ohio, its agencies or instrumentalities, as well as local governmental entities over which the ODH IRB has accepted jurisdiction).

  2. The research falls under at least one of the exemption categories listed on page two of the ODH IRB Exemption Request Form.

All Exempt applications must contain the following:

  1. IRB Exemption Request Form

  2. Research Protocol or Detailed Project Description

Some forms require Microsoft Word 2007 or greater to view and edit.  If you require a different format please E-mail:
