YRBS: Youth Risk Behavior Survey

The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a population-based survey of students in grades 9 through 12. Until recently, little was known about the prevalence of behaviors practiced by young people that put their health at risk. The YRBS, developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), now provides such information. The YRBS provides information on risk behaviors among young people to more effectively target and improve health programs.

The YRBS is conducted every two years. Ohio has participated in the YRBS since 1993. The Ohio Department of Health, Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addition Services, and the Ohio Department of Mental Health jointly sponsor the Ohio YRBS.
