| Beach Monitoring Sample Results
During the summer months, selected public beaches along Lake Erie are sampled for E. coli bacteria. The presence of this bacteria in beach water is a good indicator of pollution that could be potentially harmful to swimmers. When the amount of bacteria in the water exceeds state standards, beaches are posted with signs that advise against swimming. This site will allow you to view current sample results to determine the risks for swimming.
The Nowcast system is a real-time, predictive model that evaluates many factors to indicate the probability bacteria levels will exceed the State standards. Huntington beach has been using the Nowcast system for several years and and Edgewater State Park beach was added in 2008. For more information on the Nowcast system, please visit: http://www.ohionowcast.info/index.asp
On the map below, select the name of the beach that you are interested in viewing for testing information. Most Lake Erie beaches are sampled four times each week, and some daily. From the links listed below, you can view results for more beaches sampled by the Cuyahoga and Erie County health districts and results are available from many of the inland state park beaches that are typically sampled twice each month. The most current results are located on the last page of the document.
