Stroke Council

The Ohio Stroke Council was convened in 2005 as a subcommittee of the Ohio CVH Alliance. The goal of the Council is to raise awareness of stroke, promote stroke prevention and support developing the stroke system of care throughout Ohio.

Mission Statement

"To provide collaborative leadership to prevent stroke, promote optimal stroke care across the continuum, improve the quality of life and continued participation for survivors of stroke and their caregivers."

Member of the Stroke Council work collaboratively to:

  • Provide strategic input for the identified priority area
  • Attend council meetings on a regular basis    
  • Promote the Ohio Stroke Council, the Great Lakes Regional Stroke Network or any joint/shared activities
  • Provide leadership to the Council and its work groups 
  • Assist in the implementation of activities
  • Serve as a resource for the development of initiatives
  • Disseminate information/resources about stroke treatment and prevention activities back to their network/organization
  • Assist in identifying resources to support goals and objectives

Ohio also is part of the the Great Lakes Regional Stroke Network (GLRSN), composed of Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program staff from six state health departments and state stroke task force members in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin. The Network focuses on increasing stroke awareness and prevention and control activities within and across the region. The GLRSN, established in 2004, is built upon existing relationships among the states that have continued for over 25 years.
