The Ohio Diabetes Alliance

The Ohio Diabetes Alliance is a statewide advisory group comprised of representatives of more than 40 organizations interested in decreasing the burden of diabetes in Ohio. Representation includes voluntary diabetes organizations, academic centers, physician specialists, primary care physician organizations, nurses,  pharmacists, registered dietitians, certified diabetes educators, business and government organizations and community members. The Ohio Diabetes Alliance (formerly the Ohio Diabetes Task Force) has been in collaboration with Ohio  Diabetes Prevention and Control Program since 1981. Meetings are chaired by Dr. Frank Schwartz, Ohio University, and are held quarterly.

Goals of the alliance are to:

  • Monitor data related to outcomes of diabetes activity in Ohio and make recommendations for related alliance activity
  • Promote education to the public and interested groups about reducing risk of diabetes and its complications
  • Promote education to health care providers in order to improve health outcomes of persons with diabetes
  • Promote access to quality care and self-management education among persons with diabetes
