Local Injury Prevention Grant Program
Through the Center for Disease Control's Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant (PHHSBG), the Ohio Injury Prevention Program provides more than $500,000 annually to 15 local programs targeting injury. The goal of this grant program is to reduce injury and injury-related deaths to Ohioans through the development of comprehensive, multi-faceted, population-based programs at the local level that address the risks associated with injuries.
Projects are currently funded in 11 local health departments, two local hospitals, one county mental health agency and one home health agency. The projects are focused on developing either an intentional or unintentional injury prevention program for a priority chosen by the local agency.
Priorities chosen include: fall prevention for older adults; fire prevention; prevention of traumatic brain injury through programs in playground safety; shaken baby syndrome; all terrain vehicle safety and bicycle safety; suicide prevention; violence prevention; and prevention of agricultural injuries in children. Three of the projects are focused on intentional injury and 12 projects are focused on unintentional injury.
