Antimicrobial Resistance Initiative

In an effort to provide education and prevention strategies around antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the United States, The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in cooperation with State and County health departments and other program partners, launched the national campaign Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work to reduce inappropriate antibiotic use and reduce the spread of resistance to antibiotics.

In July 2004, Ohio Department of Health (ODH) became a federally funded site to participate in the national campaign Get Smart: Know When Antibiotics Work. Through this grant, ODH has provided education on the prevention of antimicrobial resistance in healthcare settings and community-associated MRSA and has a leading role in the development of the statewide Ohio Coalition for Antibiotic Education (Ohio CARES’s).
