Zoonotic Diseases

In general, only human cases of zoonotic diseases require reporting to the Ohio Department of Health.

• An exception is rabies in animals, where rabies positive animals are reported.
   
• Some diseases are reportable only if multiple human cases are diagnosed (e.g. blastomycosis and histoplasmosis). Therefore, there may be very few reported cases of these diseases. Refer to the Infectious Disease Control Manual (IDCM) for specific reporting requirements.
   
• Most of these diseases are uncommon in Ohio.
