| The School-based Fluoride Mouthrinse Program
The school-based Fluoride Mouthrinse (FMR) program helps prevent tooth decay and is targeted to elementary schools in communities without adequate fluoride in the drinking water. Once a week, students (with parental consent) swish a 0.2 percent solution of sodium fluoride in their mouths for one minute. Please see Fluoride Mouthrinse Program At-A-Glance for a one-page synopsis of the program.
The Fluoride Mouthrinse Program Manual provides information for school administrators and personnel, FMR coordinators and parents and includes program administration guidelines, policies and procedures, teacher recommendations and forms. The manual was updated in October 2011. It will not be printed for distribution but will remain available on this Web site.
The FMR program is now underway for the 2011-12 school year. Please contact the Oral Health program at 614/466-4180 or BCHS@odh.ohio.gov for more information.
