    Frequently Asked Questions
  1. What is OPTIONS?
OPTIONS is a program that links people in need with dentists who have volunteered to treat approved patients for reduced fees. OPTIONS is not an emergency treatment program.

  2. Who is eligible for OPTIONS?
People with a low household income with few resources and no dental insurance or Medicaid.

  3. If I'm approved for OPTIONS, how do I get dental care?
An OPTIONS referral coordinator in your area will call a nearby dentist and ask him or her to see you for an exam. The referral coordinator will provide you with the name and phone number of the dentist so you can schedule your first dental visit. Final acceptance into the program is made after the first dental exam.

  4. Who will be my dentist?
The referral coordinator will select a dentist in your area who has agreed to serve OPTIONS patients. Hundreds of dentists in Ohio are OPTIONS dentists. If dentists in your area have full schedules, you may be placed on a waiting list until a dentist becomes available.

  5. How is my dental care paid for?
Most OPTIONS patients qualify for discounted dental care and must pay those fees at the time they receive care. Discounts are based on the patient's household income and other health care needs.

  6. What types of dental services are provided?
The dentist will decide what treatment is needed. Services may include exams, x-rays, cleanings, fillings, extractions, partials, and dentures.
