The Safety Net Dental Care Grants Program strives to reduce disparities in access to dental care by expanding the capacity of the dental care safety net to serve Ohioans who are unable to afford private dental care.  The dental care safety net includes public dental clinics, school-based dental care and mobile/portable dental care programs.

The grants provide funding for comprehensive (diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic) services for a significant number of Ohioans who would not otherwise receive care. Funding may support the cost of clinic operations (by offsetting costs of uncompensated care) and, in limited situations, may be used to purchase dental equipment.

The Ohio Department of Health provides funding to 20 local agencies (see list of funded agencies).  Grants are funded for a three-year period.  The current funding period began January 2010.
