Disaster Preparedness & Response Training

Training and preparation are key in the event of a natural disaster or Bioterrorism event. The Disaster Preparedness and Response Program established various training initiatives in 1999 to accomplish our initial, highest priority, disaster preparedness. We focused upon:

  • Increased local awareness of a WMD incident
  • Greater understanding of the local health department role in disaster management.

In 2000, we focused upon:

  • Completion of the disaster manual
  • Heightening local health official’s awareness of the threat of terrorist activities involving bioterrorism

In 2001, our focus is:

  • Hospital preparedness and response to a WMD incident
  • Continuation of local health department awareness through the application of practical training exercises

Establishing the Health Alert Network (HAN) is one of the four main goals of our program. Successful implementation of the Health Alert Network requires:

  • continued training
  • communication and ongoing dialog
  • formation of colloborative working relationships

Crosstraining, information sharing and open communication are essential in successfully handling an incident of any type.

We have developed numerous manuals, presentations and model documents. The manuals can be found on the Documents Page and the presentations and classes are on the Slide Presentations Page. Any group needing information about a specific subject can request training sessions.

We offer training in a number of areas. Our main area is in the development of disaster preparedness. Here are a few courses that we offer:
