Bio-Terrorism

During the last decade, many acts of terrorism occurred around the world including the United States. Bio-terrorism in the U.S. occurred as early as 1983 in a small town in Oregon. Today, we deal with biologic incidents every year.

Due to the number of these incidents occurring in Ohio, a team of state and federal agencies met in 1999 and produced a document known as the Ohio Guidelines: Threatened Human Biologic Incident. Under this agreement, the Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation developed a working set of guidelines. These guidelines allow key agencies to come together for an initial conference call with the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta to decide how the incident should be handled. This system works very well.
