X-ray Equipment Registration & Inspection

The X-ray Registration Program registers, maintains records for and tracks radiation-generating equipment in Ohio. Handlers of radiation-generating equipment are required to be registered with the Ohio Department of Health. A handler means a facility that receives, possesses, uses, stores, transfers, installs, services or disposes of sources of radiation, unless possession is solely for the purpose of transportation.

The Radiologic Technology Section has approximately 33,000 X-ray tubes registered. The majority of registered radiation-generating equipment consists of dental, radiographic, fluoroscopic, therapeutic, computerized tomography, mammography and various types of non-medical units used for industrial applications.
