X-ray Equipment Inspections

The X-ray Inspection Program is responsible for performing inspections at facilities that handle radiation-generating equipment, which includes the x-ray equipment and its shielding and surroundings.

According to Ohio Code, each registrant shall allow the Department the opportunity to inspect radiation-generating equipment.

Inspections are performed on a frequency varying according to the type/use of radiation-generating equipment. Health physics inspectors travel throughout Ohio performing compliance tests such as exposure and timer reproducibility, half-value layer determination, and evaluating radiation safety for the patient, operator, and ancillary personnel.

To help prepare for an inspection click on the Guides link on the X-ray Registration and Inspection homepage.
