Online Continuing Education Opportunities for Health Professionals:

Ohio Department of Health Asthma Program is pleased to offer a series of one-hour webcasts for health professionals titled, Asthma Care for Health Professionals. The webcasts provide a wide variety of evidence-based training covering topics specific to the treatment of asthma. Continuing nursing education contact hours are awarded for all courses. The  online independent study archived  one-hour courses covering evidence-based guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of asthma as outlined in by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Asthma Education for Schools:

Training on Medication Administration

The Medication Administration in Ohio Schools: Training for School Personnel, designed by the Ohio Department of Health School Nursing Program, is for licensed health professionals. The course provides training for the licensed health professional and access to the course materials to be used to train designated school personnel in the administration of prescription medication to students. Asthma Inhaler Train-the-Trainer Course

Asthma Inhalers in Ohio Schools A Train-the Trainer Course: This asthma inhaler train-the-trainer course is designed for the licensed health professional and builds upon his/her training and professional knowledge. The online independent study course will provide training to the licensed health professional on the current Ohio law permitting school districts to procure, store and administer “stock” asthma inhaler medication. The goal of this course is that nurses working in the school setting will be able to work with the school administration to implement Ohio Revised Code 3313.7113. Recommended Asthma Home Visit Design

The referral recommendations for a home visit for asthma is based on the National Institute of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP) Expert Panel Review-3 (EPR-3) guidelines. Click here for a copy.

Asthma Pocket Size Reference Guide
: The Ohio Department of Health Asthma Program designed a pocketsize asthma care guide based on NHLBI – EPR-3 guidelines. The guide contains asthma facts, emergency contact numbers, medications, as well an Asthma Action Plan for the health provider to complete with electronically fillable spaces. The credit card size fits easily in a wallet for the patient with asthma.
