Hearing Aid Dealers and Fitting Licensing Board Continuing Education

The completion of ten hours of approved continuing education is required to renew an individual’s hearing aid dealers and fitters license. One of the ten hours must be obtained in ethics or Ohio law and rules. The hours must be obtained during the year prior to the renewal of the license.

Continuing education units may be earned in the following continuing education experiences:

  • Academic coursework in audiology, or related disciplines, taken at accredited colleges or universities.
  • An activity approved for continuing education units in related disciplines by any licensure Board of the State of Ohio.
  • Any activity approved for continuing education units by:
    • National Institute of Hearing Instrument Studies
    • American Speech-Language Hearing Association
    • American Academy of Audiology

Continuing Education Audit

After the completion of the annual license renewal cycle the Board conducts an audit to determine compliance with the continuing education requirement. The individuals selected for the audit are notified by the Board to submit verification of the completion of the continuing education experiences. Failure to comply with the audit requirements could result in the suspension or revocation of the individual’s license.

All individuals who renew their license after the February 1st deadline are required to submit proof of the completion of at least ten hours of continuing education before their license can be renewed. If an individual does not renew their license for more than one year, ten hour of continuing education is required for each year the license was not renewed. Since a license cannot be renewed after it has been expired for two years, 20 hours is the maximum number of hours the Board can require.
