With asthma the air passages are inflamed (similar to sunburned) and they sometimes narrow when they are in contact with allergens, dust particles, odors or other things to which a person is sensitive. Asthma causes missed work and school days, emergency room and hospital visits and even death. There is no cure for asthma but asthma can be controlled. This Web site contains helpful information for the control of asthma. The goal of the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Asthma Program is to reduce the effects of asthma on the residents of Ohio. There are two primary ways the program does this. One is by supporting the development of the Ohio Asthma Coalition and participating in its activities.
