See the Approved Systems and Components web page for information on current component and system approvals.  Product review options vary based on the type  of system or component.  Many products such as dosing tanks, drop boxes, sand fill, gravelles pipe and chambers do not require a review if used in accordance with rule provisions or current Ohio Department of Health approvals.

Review for BOD₅/TSS Soil Absorption Area Sizing Reduction:
Compliance with the BOD­₅­/TSS standard requires that effluent meet an average of less than 30 milligrams per liter (mg/L) for five-day biochemical oxygen demand (BOD­₅­) and total suspended solids (TSS) for a soil absorption area sizing reduction.

Applicants seeking approval for BOD­₅­/TSS sizing reduction must verify current certification in compliance with ANSI/NSF Standard 40.

Products, components or systems subject to review per ORC 3718.04 and Technical Advisory Committee recommendations to the Director of Health:
An application may be submitted to the Sewage Treatment System Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and ODH for the approval of a system or component of an STS that differs in design or function from that authorized in rule (Ohio Administrative Code 3701-29).  Components may be reviewed for compliance with pathogen reduction (fecal coliform) standards found in the appendix to the Standards and Guidelines for ORC 3718.04 Review.  Effluent limitations to be considered for an NPDES system application are available in Tables A.1 and A.2 on pages 5 and 6 of the HSTS General NPDES Permit. 

To request an ORC 3718.04 Review, complete the application form and submit it with all required information in accordance with the instructions for ORC 3718.04 review.
