School-based Sealant Program Grants

These grants help local agencies start and maintain school-based dental sealant programs (SBSPs). Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings applied to children’s permanent (adult) molar teeth to prevent decay on the chewing surfaces.  Sealants are placed on children’s teeth in grades 2 and 6 in schools with many children from lower-income families. Currently, 16 dental sealant grants are funded (see the list of funded agencies and a map of counties with programs.)  A one-page fact sheet about Ohio's program is available as well as a list of frequently asked questions.
