Notes:
Detection of a biological attack:
a. Because of the incubation period, recognizing a biological agent attack or incident will be more difficult. It is more subtle than a chemical attack.
b. The first responders are health care professionals working in ambulatory clinics, physicians offices, and the emergency room.
c. There is the possibility of EMS personnel recognizing a covert attack by more than a usual level of patients exhibiting like symptoms..
Note: The science of investigating the incidence, distribution and control of diseases is called epidemiology. PUBLIC HEALTH PROFESSIONALS are trained in the science of epidemiology (also known as “epi” for short.)
