Decontamination of Patients & Environment
Goal = reduce extent of external contamination of the patient & contain contamination to prevent further spread.
Decontamination should only be used in instances of gross contamination.
Decisions regarding DECON needs should be in consultation with state and local health departments and in advance.
Notes:
Decontamination of exposed individuals prior to receiving them in the healthcare facility may be necessary to ensure the safety of patients and staff while providing care.
*When developing Bioterrorism Readiness Plans, facilities should consider available locations and procedures for patient decontamination prior to facility entry.
