Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness, Wellness and Sports

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Physical Fitness, Wellness and Sports consists of fifteen members. Eleven are appointed by the Governor, with the remaining four being members of the General Assembly. The council’s mission statement reads “Promote personal health, wellness and physical activity for all Ohioans” with a vision that “Ohio leads the nation in the percentage of individuals participating in healthy, active lifestyles.”

Annually, the council sponsors the Healthy Ohioans Fitness Walk, traditionally held the third Wednesday in May in support of the Governor’s National Employee Health and Fitness Day activities on the Statehouse lawn. The goal of the walk is to get 1,000,000 Ohioans walking one mile that day in communities across Ohio.
