About the Program

The Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Prevention Program (SADVPP) response and recovery services include administering the federal Sexual Assault Services Act and Preventative Health and Health Services Block Grant, Sex Offense Set-Aside funds. These funds provide for the provision of comprehensive, standardized and appropriate crises intervention, support and follow-up services for survivors of sexual assault. To better respond to victim/survivor needs, SADVVP:

  • Works to ensure all victims/survivors have access and support to medical services, law enforcement, prosecutor and advocacy services.
  • Collaborates with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Ohio Department of Public Safety, Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services, Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence and other Ohio experts to create and implement best practices for care to minimize trauma victims/survivors.
  • Supports the use of a coordinated team approach within the community – Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

2011 Ohio Protocol for Sexual Assault Forensic and Medical Exams - The Ohio Protocol was originally developed in 1991. This is the fifth edition and is a result of a review of the National Protocol for Sexual Assault Medical and Forensic Examination, best practices shared from other states and input from a number of experts throughout Ohio.

Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit Reorders - Revisions have been made to Ohio’s kit based upon the input of the Ohio Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and TRITECHFORENSICS. 

Sexual Assault Advisory Board of Ohio (SAABO) - The mission of SAABO is to ensure that all victims of sexual assault or sexual abuse have consistent access to quality medical care in the collection of evidence that meet the standards set forth in the 2011 Ohio Protocol for Sexual Assault Forensic and Medical Exams.
